Ox-eyed Daisy Restoring Salve

Very few people know that this little roadside daisy is edible and medicinal, in fact the whole plant is medicinal. An often-overlooked flower, adorned with white petals, this flower is loaded with benefits both externally and internally and its use for winter is right on time. My daisies grow in my yard everywhere.

Externally, used as a lotion or salve, oxeye daisies hasten the healing of cuts, scrapes, punctures, sprains, aches, pains, arthritis, ulcerations, bruises, stings, insect bites, and other wounds including that of cuticle moisturizer. Eyewash made from tea is a good treatment for tired eyes. This salve is made using solar infused wild harvested daisies in olive oil. It’s a very basic salve but with great healing properties. Antibacterial, anti-fungal, hemostatic (controls bleeding), vulnerary (wound healing), anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic. Little is known for the salve though I have found documentation dating back to the Norse era (Vikings) and the one purpose I use this salve for is cracked skin during the winter months whether it's on your lips, feet, hands, elbows. Like all my products, it’s multipurpose.

Ingredients for this salve are super simple, however, I let the infusion process go on for 3 months using a triple macerate procedure. What this is, is merely infusing dried flowers for a month, separating the old plant material and using new plant material with the already infused oil, doing this 3 times. This is a very little-known salve, but those who do make it tend to use essential oils, I do not merely because I like to capture the true essence of the plant and not doctor it up with scent. Essential oils have their place, just not in my salves. Other ingredients are beeswax and vitamin E.

To use, rub salve on dry or damaged skin as needed. The salve will absorb into the skin within minutes leaving the skin hydrated and protected.
