New product. coming tomorrow. For the last couple days, I have been on a research binge on making a lotion bar that was suggested by a customer. With all the rain this year, the bugs are bad and so it was suggested to make a bug repellent bar. This bar is unlike any other kind of bug bar out there. Using my original lotion bar recipe, I am adding the essentials of Citronella, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Clove, and Thyme. Many who make such bars use only two or three essential oils to target skeeters and flies, but I'm going deeper. I decided to cover the full spectrum of bugs that bite. Ticks, chiggers, skeeters, flies, fleas and fire ants to boot.
Each essential oil covers chiggers, ticks, skeeters, flies, ants, and fleas. But why incorporate so many oils? It's easy to use 2 or 3 essential oils, and so it's easy to copy recipes. I prefer to make my recipes copy proof since I like offering items that other companies don't make. Of course, many companies offer lotion bars, but not in all the essential oils I am putting into this lotion bar, and there are a couple of essential oils that aren't normally and often overlooked for use as bug repelling, clove & thyme.
How did I find out what worked? I had 2 ticks on me today, and they were more than happy to be used as lab rats for my recipe experiment. The combination of clove and thyme alone killed the ticks. The other essential oils are all well known for their bug repelling components.
All the essential oils are skin safe and can be used on children. I used a very small amount of eucalyptus (1 drop) because children under 6 can have irritation and so I wanted to eliminate any chance of irritation for all who use the bar. Every recipe I have, every product I make, I try to create an item that is 99% irritation free. I know it's impossible since everyone has different allergens, but my dedication to you, my customers, your safety and your health are vitally important to me. Always will be.
