No Baking Soda

In today's wonderful world of deodorants, every scent imaginable is on the shelves. Of course, with the endless supply of chemically altered scents, the ingredients are just as astronomical. If one was to compare ingredients from A brand to B brand, you’ll see many ingredients the same, but with alternative spellings. One of the most common ingredients is sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. Baking soda is a chemical compound which is mined and first used to replace salt in the 1800’s from a salt shortage.

Deodorant companies believe that the higher percentage of baking soda is a stronger defense against odor. But this is not so. Actually, too high and it causes damaged skin. Baking soda messes with your PH balance. Our skin has a PH balance of 4.5 to 6.5. Baking soda has an alkaline Ph of 9. That’s crazy since this means that baking soda with a Ph of 9 is 100 times more alkaline than 6.5.

Baking soda stays on the skin and disrupts the enzyme activity and messes with the good bacteria that fends off viruses which in turn irritates skin, causes rashes, breakouts, burning sensation, and increase sensitivity. With these issues, baking soda also stains clothing. Many believe it’s the skin oils that create these stains but is not the case. So what ingredients are better than this baking soda?

Like every ingredient I use, I research until I can’t anymore. Countless hours of research go into each ingredient because of the personal mission I am on, to help people and not harm them in any way. My products must be natural, organic, and herbal. The complete elimination of all chemicals is a huge undertaking, but as I always say, “only the best for my customers” because my customers are worth it. I care more about you than I do about profit. Of course, I need profit to bring the ingredients into the products, so it’s a continuous revolving door.

Without revealing my recipe for deodorant, I’ll discuss the two important ingredients I use. Arrowroot Powder and Bentonite Clay. Arrowroot powder has a load of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B6, Iron, zinc which all help to soften the skin and enable it to absorb moisture thus providing relief for acne, rashes, irritation, hence arrowroot is anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant. But there is another reason I use arrowroot. For my armpit shavers, arrowroot soothes razor burn! With chemical compounds, there are always drawbacks, arrowroot has none and it's healthy for you.

Bentonite Clay is another ingredient I use and is rarely included in deodorant. Clay is a natural deodorant and bentonite clay absorbs and detoxes. But to explain bentonite and how it all works is time consuming and for some the reading would be boring, so I’ll skip all that and move onto the why. Bentonite clay becomes activated by moisture like sweat. Though the clay isn’t absorbed into the skin, it helps detox the skin from radicals, pollutants, viruses and toxins and eliminates these from the body. By helping keep you dry, it helps fuel detoxing as well, which is a double bonus. Using natural ingredients and odor killing leaves your armpits feeling fresh.
