Since I shared the benefits of spirulina, I thought it would be a good thing to continue with more reads on the different coloring I use and why. In this read, I’ll talk about Alkanet root or Ratanjot which belongs to the borage family. and grows in tropical regions of the world.
I use Alkanet root as a dye. Depending on how much I use, the color can vary from light maroon to almost black, and the manufacturing process can make the color vary too. But the reason I use it is not just for coloring. Alkanet’s benefit for the skin is renowned. From fungal infections such as ringworm and eczema to anti-aging properties and skin cuts, burns, alkanet is a miraculous herb that treats skin issues from the inside out. Therefore, it's anti-inflammatory.
Since Alkanet root is rich in antioxidants, it has anti-aging properties. Using this herb on your skin and hair prevents free radical damage. This in turn creates glowing skin.
Being ant-microbial, alkanet has been used to treat all skin and scalp infections such as acne, dandruff and skin infections. This is because alkanet has amazing anti-microbial properties.
The last reason I love using this herb is because of the anti-cancer properties. Naphthoquinones are an active compound in Alkanet and have been proven to have powerful anti-cancer properties.
Moreover, Alkanet root also treats varicose veins, itching, rashes, and abscesses. This herb is also used in organic cosmetics such as nails and fights fungus while strengthening the nail itself.
But this herb has several advantages for hair too. Natural coloring kits offer Alkanet which strengthens and restores the roots. It can be used to cover grey hair because it gives hair a natural hue.
